2014 has been great first year for us here at Glennmade Confections! We have been truly blessed with many opportunities and getting to know many amazing people as we start our journey.
After we were incorporated on January 8th, we were given a great opportunity from a friend to make our dark chocolate bonbons at Tuck’d Away Bar and Grill in Tuckahoe, NY from February through June. It gave us the chance to test our dark chocolate confections with the public and we received some pretty great feedback. In July we decided to bring our equipment back home to Hoboken, NJ. It was a time to take a step back and rethink our strategy and how to move forward. At that point we teamed up with Miller Creative, a branding and packaging agency in Lakewood, NJ to help us refine our story and rebrand with a new logo and a cutting edge color scheme. We have big plans to work with them on new packaging next year, which will surely catch some eyes.
During the summer we felt that events would be a good way to gain some more exposure. After making favors for our first engagement party client in September we started to network with our friends and started to plan events for October and November.
Doors opened for us in October when we sponsored the Karma Bar at the Rock and Rawhide 2nd Annual Black, White and Red Gala and met the amazing founders, Kylie and Sean-Patrick. All guests including several VIP celebrities tried our Pumpkin Pie bonbons including Skeery Jones, Coco and Joe Gatto and they all loved them. At that event we also met the up and coming and very talented pop artist, Brielle who was also a big fan of our bonbons.
November started out rather busy when we were given the opportunity to sponsor Brielle’s “Avalanche” Music Video Premiere private event and continued to make connections with "glam" cupcakensta, Kay Martin of Cupcake Kay's and celebrity blogger, Madonna Williams of GlamSenseDivas to name a few. Our good friends Frank, Adam and Rich at NoMa Comedy have been great supporters since day one. We had sponsored a comedy contest with them in the beginning of November and provided some bonbons for their guests and the feedback was outstanding. Days later, we teamed up with Broken Bow Brewery in Tuckahoe, NY to do a chocolate and stout pairing event to celebrate International Stout Day. A week later we sponsored the Masonic Charity Corporation in Putnam County for their 68th Masonic Charity Ball. We have been supporting them for the past few years and it was great to continue supporting their great work. The week after we had the opportunity to sell our bonbons at Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx for The Bronx Wanderers Concert and were able to gain some more support and customers through that event.
We jumped right into the holiday spirit at the beginning of December by making our Peppermint bonbons for Rock and Rawhide’s Cocoa with Coco event where people were able to take holiday pictures with Santa and Coco. We felt the love and the great karma coming back to us when we received a good amount of holiday orders pouring in through our new friends and supporters and right before Christmas arrived we had an opportunity to support Bronx charity, Spoiled Brats Give Back with their 3rd Annual Christmas Toy Drive.
In developing our business this year, we moved our website from the Shopify platform to the Squarespace platform and redesigned our website and added a ton of content from our events, press and various photos of our dark chocolate bonbons.
This year we were able to create 13 unique dark chocolate bonbon flavors! We even had the chance to create a little teaser video on how we meticulously craft our most popular Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter and Jelly bonbons. You must check it out here!
The outlook for 2015 is very bright for us. We have a lot in store including starting up our monthly newsletter in January, and blogging regularly in our brand new blog, Beyond the Bonbons. We are even planning a pretty big Kickstarter campaign to help us raise funds to create luxurious high-end boxes in various sizes, test and implement an efficient shipping process and packaging, continue to create new, flavorful, unique bonbons flavors and depending on the support and exposure we receive throughout the year, we may even look for a retail/manufacturing location.
We want to thank all of our family, friends, customers and all those who have supported us throughout 2014 and we look forward to sharing our successes with all of you in 2015! If you didn't see, we made a generous holiday donation to Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry Campaign to support childhood hunger and look forward to supporting them more in the upcoming year!
